January 2022, the Commission issued SRM-SECY-18-0058 approving the final rule. The final rule was published on March 14, 2023 (88 FR 15864).
This rulemaking is closed and is being implemented by licensees.
The staff is awaiting Commission direction.
The proposed rule is scheduled to go to the Commission in May 2024.
The Radioactive Source Security and Accountability proposed rule is not approved by the Commission on March 8, 2024 (SRM-SECY-22-0112). The NRC has discontinued this rulemaking activity (89 FR 22636). This rulemaking activity is now closed.

4/3/2024 Future updates to NUREG-1520 are expected to address remaining long-term recommendation from the Smarter Licensing Program, lessons learned, and potential new fuels applications.
Controlled Unclassified Information Program Tanya Mensah 3/18/2024 The NRCs plans to implement MD 12.6 are delayed. A new date will be identified by OCIO after the National Security Council (NSC) Interagency Policy Committee (IPC) completes its efforts to identify Federal-wide CUI implementation challenges and proposed policy solutions.
The rulemaking plan is in concurrence review and scheduled to go to SECY in May 2024.
