Dave Gasperson, 404-997-4417 NRC Schedules Open House Meeting to Discuss Safety Performance of Framatome Facility Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has scheduled an open house for April 16 to discuss its two-year safety performance review of the Framatome nuclear fuel fabrication facility in Richland, Washington.
The event is scheduled to run from 6-8 p.m. Pacific at the Richland Community Center, 500 Amon Park Drive in Richland. NRC employees responsible for inspecting the Framatome facility will be available to answer questions and provide additional information.
The open house format allows more interaction with the NRC staff and facilitates one-on-one and small-group discussions. It also gives flexibility to nearby residents and others who wish to attend. Posters covering the agencys inspections and its review of the facilitys operations will be available.
NRC assessed performance at the Framatome facility from Jan. 1, 2022, through Dec. 31, 2023, in safety operations, safeguards, radiological controls, facility support, and other areas. The NRC staff found that Framatome continued to conduct its activities safely and met NRC requirements for protecting workers, nearby residents, and the environment.
The NRC does not have resident inspectors at the Framatome facility, but fuel facility inspectors from its Atlanta regional office conduct periodic inspections of various aspects of the operation. These inspections occur multiple times a year.
A copy of the NRC letter to the company about the performance is available on the NRC website.
