This letter is being provided to update the status of a recent interim report submitted by Mackson Nuclear, LLC in accordance with 10CFR 21.21. The interim report was provided on Mackson letter, LTR-NRC-2023-01, dated December 11, 2023 (a duplicate Part 21 notification to one made by Tioga Pipe, Inc., Event Notification 56882, NRC Log No. 2023-26-00, Accession No. ML23352A238).
The licensee, Duke Energy-Brunswick Nuclear Plant, evaluated the installed elbows for acceptability in accordance with their corrective action program. Brunswick inspectors performed UT thickness evaluations of the installed nonconforming elbows (Fitting IDs: 16836-1-3, -14, and -20) and the results were used to confirm that the subject system remained operable. The remaining six nonconforming elbows (Fitting IDs: 16836-1-1, -6, -7, -11, -15, and -21) have been returned to the manufacturer, Flowline, and are being processed and controlled under Flowline's nonconforming items program. That is correct, UT readings on the installed elbows show that they exceed nominal thickness, and we are leaving them installed.

Originally, when we first were looking into the issue and as we were determining the correct interpretation of the spec the best case scenario was that 3 were installed. Once we determined that the.180 min wall was the actual minimum, the scope increased to 9.
