WESTINGHOUSES NOTICE OF INTENT TO FABRICATE LOW ENRICHED URANIUM (LEU+)
Westinghouse Electric Company LLC (Westinghouse) is pleased to inform the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Division of Fuel Management (DFM) of its intent to begin pre-application discussions on plans to submit an application to amend the existing special nuclear material license, SNM-1107, to authorize low enriched uranium (LEU+) fuel manufacturing at the Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility (CFFF) in Hopkins, South Carolina.
Westinghouse intends to design and construct a new fuel manufacturing facility adjacent to the existing CFFF main building. This new LEU+ facility would house fuel fabrication and scrap recycling processes designed to safely handle LEU+.
Westinghouse is currently developing a detailed licensing schedule for the amendment application submittal; however, for NRC planning purposes, Westinghouse intends to begin pre-application discussions with DFM by April 2024.
