UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT Materials License No. SNM-1270 Amendment No. 13 Docket No. 70-1220 By application dated June 27, 2023, Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML23178A078, GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy requested renewal of Materials License No. SNM-1270. No other changes were requested in the license conditions other than the change of the mailing address for the license.
Materials License No. SNM-1270, authorizes GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy Americas, LLC, to possess special nuclear material (which may be irradiated), source material, and byproduct material, in packages approved pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Part 71, for the purpose of delivery of this material to a carrier for transport and in private carriage.
The license applies to special nuclear material used only in research and development activities, as defined in 10 CFR 70.4. Therefore, the categorical exclusion of 10 CFR 71.51.22(c)(14)(v) applies and neither an environmental assessment nor an environmental impact statement is warranted.
As requested by the applicant, the license has been renewed for a 5-year term which expires on July 31, 2028.
