Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station Unit 1 License Amendment Request NRC Pre-Submittal Meeting 6/29/2023
1st High Temperature Gas Reactor (HTGR) prototype under the Atomic Energy Commission.
200 MWt/40 MWe, helium cooled, graphite moderated.
Operated 1967-1974.
Decommissioning activities performed by Feb. 1978 to achieve SAFSTOR.
PB Unit 1 continues to be maintained in SAFSTOR License expiration date (October 2034)
PB Unit 1 (DPR-12):
Possession only license, as amended thru Amendment 17 Decommissioning Plan as approved in 1974 Peach Bottom Unit 1 - Current Status 2
License Amendment Request for DPR-12 planned for 2023:
Amend License condition(s) and Technical Specifications (TS) which preclude decommissioning activities without prior NRC approval.
- License Condition C.(1) stipulates that shall not dismantle or dispose of the facility without prior approval from the NRC.
- TS Section 1.0 stipulates that The only activity carried on within the Exclusion Area shall be routine and emergency inspections and maintenance.
Amend License/TS to follow Post-Shutdown Decommissioning Activities Report (PSDAR) process per 10CFR50.82 using Regulatory Guide 1.185.
Amend controls associated with Exclusion Area to PSDAR, procedure(s), and/or program(s) controls per 10 CFR 50.59 and 10 CFR 50.82, as applicable.
