Overview of Acceptance Review Letter and NRC Safety Review Approach Overview of Acceptance Review Letter RSI, FISDs, and HITIs The SDAA will follow a 4-phased approach for the safety review:
Phase A: NRC performs audit and develops the Advanced Safety Evaluation Report (ASER) without open items Phase B: ASER review (technical editing), OGC review (No Legal Objection),
and Management concurrence Phase C: ACRS review of ASER Phase D: NRC issues Final Safety Evaluation Report (FSER) and SDA 4
Overview of safety review structure and approach Phase A of the review began on March 20, 2023 Two audits began on March 27, 2023:
Audit for Phase A Safety Review Audit for RSI Resolution The purpose of these audits is to review and discuss supporting material with the objective of improving communication and eliminating unnecessary requests for additional information.

Specific areas of the SDAA and LTRs impacted by the Density Wave Oscillation (DWO) RSI has been discussed during audit teleconference calls on March 30 and April 4, 2023 On April 18-19, 2023, NuScale presented DWO test data to the NRC staff in their Rockville office Next Steps:
NuScale to provide additional RSI supporting documents in electronic reading room (eRR) and/or their offices 6

Specific areas of the SDAA and LTRs impacted by the FISDs have been discussed with NuScale during several audit calls Staff is currently reviewing supporting documents provided in eRR Next Steps:

Pre-SDAA LTRs The staff has completed reviewing four SDAA LTRs as part of the pre-SDAA phase.
The staff is currently reviewing the following four LTRS submitted in the pre-SDAA phase:
Critical Heat Flux Correlations - Advance SE issued on March 9, 2023 Rod Ejection Accident Methodology - Advance SE: July 2023 Subchannel Analysis Methodology - Advance SE: June 2023 Quality Assurance Program Description (QAPD) - Advance SE:
September 2023 LTRs submitted with SDAA are included in the SDAA Phase A and RSI audits 9

Generic LTRs:
EPZ LTR completed in November 2022 NuScale plans to submit three generic LTRs to support future license applications:
Mitigation of Beyond-Design-Basis Events (Pre-submittal meeting was held on March 21, 2023)
Reactor Flange Tool Design Spent Fuel Pool Rack Design NuScale plans to implement ASME Code Case N-883 as an alternative to the provisions of BPVC Section III:
On March 14, 2023, NuScale withdrew their previously submitted request as a result of feedback they received in a post submittal meeting A second meeting is planned to inform a revised submission.
