OF MARCH 29, 2023, PARTIALLY CLOSED HYBRID PRE-SUBMITTAL MEETING BETWEEN FRAMATOME INC. AND THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION ON FRAMATOME INCREASED BURNUP TOPICAL REPORT (EPID L-2023-LRO-0011)
On March 29, 2023, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a partially closed (open session and closed session) hybrid meeting with in-person and remote participation via Microsoft Teams with representatives from Framatome Inc. (Framatome). The purpose of the meeting was for the NRC staff and the Framatome representatives to conduct pre-submittal discussions on an increased burnup topical report (TR) regarding core flow patterns following a loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) with fuel fragmentation relocation and dispersal (FFRD). The meeting notice is available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at Accession No. ML23074A194. Other, increased burnup TR related meetings were held with the NRC staff and Framatome representatives on August 20, 2020 (ADAMS Accession No. ML20335A115), November 16, 2020 (ADAMS Accession No. ML20343A028), December 18, 2020 (ADAMS Accession No. ML20350B553),
February 24, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21050A328), May 25, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21141A235), September 15, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21256A006), and May 4, 2022 (ADAMS Accession No. ML22122A048).
During the open session, the Framatome representatives provided a background on past FFRD discussions, their advanced fuel management program for LOCA with, scope of the future increased burnup TR submittal, and an introduction on the closed session topics, discussed later. There were no questions from members of the public. The discussion questions regarding proprietary information are described in Enclosure 2.
