Dear Mr. Boyle,
We are planning a shipment later in 2023 from Japan utilizing the JMS-87Y-18.5T package that will enter the US. The package has been validated by the US, most recently on November 16, 2018, with an expiration on September 23, 2023, and it requires a renewed US validation as the shipment will occur after the expiration date of the current validation.
We confirm that there are no changes in the Safety Analysis Report or the structure and design of JMS-87Y-20T package from the last approval certificate. The only differences from the previous approval are as follows:
- 1. Certain fuel contents deleted (no new fuel added);
- 2. Planned Years of Use (40 years) added; and
- 3.
SAR complies with 2018 IAEA Edition of the Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Materials (IAEA No. SSR 6).
The results of the safety analyses (structural analysis, thermal analysis, containment analysis, shield analysis, and criticality analysis) all remain unchanged.
Also attached for your reference are (l)US Competent Authority Certificate USA/0401/ B (U) F-96, Revision 14 (revalidation of J/111/B(U) F-96, Rev. 2) expiring on September 23, 2018 and (2) the new Japanese validation J/2044/B(U) F for which we are :requesting US validation. We have additional documentation to send to you, but we require drop box link to transmit them to you.
