OF JANUARY 31, 2023, MEETING WITH THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION OF TEST, RESEARCH, AND TRAINING REACTORS Meeting Summary:
On January 31, 2023, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a hybrid observation public meeting with representatives from the National Organization of Test, Research, and Training Reactors (TRTR). The purpose of the meeting was to allow the NRC staff to discuss general issues within the TRTR community and provide some updates about documents and general plans. The meeting notice and agenda, dated January 19, 2023, are available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML23019A335. The enclosure to this memorandum provides the list of meeting attendees.
The meeting began with the NRC staff presenting information (ML23031A011), discussing generic issues that could be applicable to research and test reactor licensees. Additionally, the NRC staff informed the TRTR community that the NRC staff is developing an information notice related to the generic issues and provided updates on guidance documents that are in development and the target timeline for issuance. Members of the TRTR community requested that the NRC staff allows for a 60-day comment period for the information notice to ensure the TRTR community has enough time to provide comments and requested that the comment period does not overlap with any newly issued documents the NRC staff is working on to minimize the strain on the TRTR community.
