Generic Communication
- Information notices communicate operating or analytical experience to the nuclear industry.
- Information notices may also communicate the results of recently completed research.
- The industry is expected to review the information for applicability and consider appropriate actions to avoid similar problems.
Reactive Inspections, NCV, SL-III and SL-IV violations by Year
Trending Issues
- As of January 2023, there have been multiple events and violations at various non-power production and utilization facility (NPUF) sites, some at the same facilities.
- The staff compiled a list of inspection reports and event notices issued since 2018 that describe events and NRCs inspection findings that relate to this Information Notice.
Status
- The IN technical Team has been formed
- The Generic Communication PM has been assigned
- The data mining is complete and being compiled
- The team is working on the 1st draft of the IN
- Draft IN target is the end of February
- Will be issued for comments ~late April
- Expect to Publish in late spring/early summer

WHY?
- NUREG-1537, "Revision 1, revises NUREG-1537, Guidelines for Preparing and Reviewing Applications for the Licensing of Non-Power Reactors, Revision 0, February 1996;
- include guidelines for preparing and reviewing license applications for additional types of NPUFs.
- includes updates related to changes made to the regulatory requirements applicable to NPUFs by the final rule, Non-Power Production or Utilization Facility License Renewal,
- provides guidance related to changes to Section 104c of the AEA, made by the Nuclear Energy Innovation and Modernization Act of 2019 (NEIMA) (P.L. 115-439), and
- incorporates lessons learned from 25 years of experience using NUREG-1537, Revision 0

- NUREG-1537, Revision 1, expands to five volumes, a volume for each type of non-power facility and a separate volume for expanded guidance for ERs and environmental reviews Volume No.
