Earlier today, NRC staff held a conference call with Niowave in order to prepare for the next pre-application public meeting on the topics of criticality safety, neutronics, and thermal hydraulics with regard to the irradiation unit and the applicable requirements and guidance.
Niowave was interested in a discussion of all the applicable regulations with regard to their license application submittal. Niowave recognizes that the guidance in both NUREG-1520 and NUREG-1537 can be applicable to their submittal. The discussion touched on topics missed during the last conference call on January 18, such as shielding. The call lasted over an hour and NRC staff provided feedback that should benefit Niowave and their preparation for their application submittal. Niowave would like the next pre-application meeting to occur in four to six weeks from today.
