SUMMARY
OF THE DECEMBER 14, 2022, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS PRE-APPLICATION LICENSING WHITE PAPER AND TOPICAL REPORT ON SAFETY STRATEGY FOR THE BWRX-300 SMALL MODULAR REACTOR On December 14, 2022, a virtual observation public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy Americas, LLC (GEH), and other stakeholders as identified in Enclosure 2. The purpose of this public meeting was to discuss the submitted White Paper on BWRX-300, Safety Strategy (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML22341A058) and for the NRC and CNSC staff to provide comments and feedback. The White Paper was submitted to the NRC and CNSC on December 7, 2022.
The information presented and discussed during the meeting was non-proprietary, eliminating the need for a closed session of the meeting.
The topics discussed during this meeting included the following:
BWRX-300 Safety Strategy concept, including a description of the Fundamental Safety Functions, D-in-D concept and process for plant and system design requirements; Defense Line definition and application, including process and guidance for classification of structure, system, and components; CONTACT: Jordan Glisan, NRR/DNRL 301-415-3478

Description of the Safety Analysis objectives, scope, and approach that aligns with the BWRX-300 Safety Strategy; Description of the identification, categorization and grouping of Postulated Initiating Events and accident scenarios, including Fault Sequences; and Description of the Hazard Evaluation process and the Deterministic Safety Analysis and Probabilistic Safety Assessment processes.
The NRC issued the public meeting notice (ML22326A267) on October 26, 2022, and posted it on the NRC public website.
