SUMMARY

TRIP REPORT FOR THE CARBON FREE POWER PROJECT (CFPP) PRE-APPLICATION SITE VISIT HELD OCTOBER 25-27, 2022 On October 25 through 27, 2022, NRC staff conducted a visit to a site proposed by Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems Carbon Free Power Project (CFPP) for the potential siting of a NuScale small modular reactor at the Department of Energy Idaho National Laboratory (DOE-INL) near Idaho Falls, Idaho.

As stated in the trip report, the purpose of the initial pre-application site visit was to familiarize the NRCs Environmental Review Team with the applicant and their proposed site for the CFPP project at INL, discuss the proposed licensing approach and impacts on the subsequent NEPA project schedules, and develop a mutual understanding of the information required for the environmental report (ER) for a variety of potential licensing submittals based on applicable regulations and guidance. In addition, on October 27, 2022, staff attended a meet and greet with the Shoshone Bannock Tribes Cultural Resource staff and the Fort Hall Business Council to discuss the NRCs mission, regulatory processes, and the potential review of the CFPP Combined License Application.
