American Osteopathic Board of Nuclear Medicine ATTN: Catelyn Schwartz Certification Director c/o American Osteopathic Association 142 East Ontario Street, 4th Floor Chicago, IL 60611

SUBJECT:

AMERICAN OSTEOPATHIC BOARD OF NUCLEAR MEDICINE, TERMINATION OF NRC RECOGNITION LETTER

Dear Catelyn Schwartz:

This letter is to inform you that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has terminated its recognition of the American Osteopathic Board of Nuclear Medicines (AOBNM) certification processes. This termination of AOBNMs recognition is based on the inactive status of the board. Given AOBNMs inactive status, the AOBNM Nuclear Medicine certification process no longer satisfies the board recognition criteria in 10 CFR 35.290, Training for imaging and localization studies.

On November 8, 2022, the NRC sent a letter to AOBNM, which requested confirmation of AOBNMs inactive status (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)

Accession No. ML22277A846). On November 10, 2022, AOBNM confirmed its inactive status (ML22326A302). The NRC does not recognize AOBNM certifications issued after March 5, 2019, the date when the AOBNM Nuclear Medicine certification became inactive. This date was shared with the NRC in an April 29, 2022, letter from AOBNM (ML22122A155).

Candidates that were granted certification from the AOBNM between May 18, 2006, when AOBNMs processes were recognized by the NRC (ML061790495), and March 5, 2019, can continue to use their certificates to seek authorized user approval on NRC licenses. The 7-year requirement in 10 CFR 35.59, Recentness of training, will continue to apply to candidates granted certification from AOBNM between May 18, 2006, and March 5, 2019. Candidates that received AOBNM certification outside of this time interval and are seeking to be identified as an authorized user on a license must either seek certification through a different NRC-recognized specialty board or provide documentation of the applicable training and experience directly to the NRC through the NRCs alternate training and experience pathway.

In the future, AOBNM may seek NRC re-recognition if it becomes active and satisfies the board recognition criteria in 10 CFR Part 35.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390, Public inspections, exemptions, requests for withholding, a copy of this letter, along with your response letter, will be made available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or in the NRCs ADAMS, accessible from the NRC website at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html.May 8, 2023 C.
