UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 The Honorable Cynthia M. Lummis United States Senate Washington, DC 20510
Dear Senator Lummis:
November 7, 2022 On behalf of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), I am responding to your September 30, 2022, letter requesting that the NRC promptly review the license application submitted by Disa Technologies, Inc. (Disa) to use its high-pressure slurry ablation technology to remediate contaminated legacy uranium mines.
The NRC staff is evaluating the application to ensure that it is reviewed in accordance with the appropriate regulatory framework. Following this determination, the staff will proceed with its acceptance review to confirm the application contains sufficient information to begin the safety and environmental reviews. The staff will continue to keep Disa informed as it proceeds through its review.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me or have your staff contact Eugene Dacus, Director of the Office of Congressional Affairs, at (301) 415-1776.
Sincerely, Christopher T. Hanson
