SUMMARY
OF SEPTEMBER 14, 2022, PARTIALLY CLOSED MEETING WITH FRAMATOME INC. AND THE U. S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION TO DISCUSS DEGRADED PIPING SOLUTION On September 14, 2022, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a partially closed (open and closed session) teleconference meeting via Microsoft Teams with representatives from Framatome Inc. (Framatome). The purpose of the meeting was to discuss Framatomes degraded piping solution. The meeting was noticed on September 2, 2022, and is available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at Accession No. ML22245A028.
During the open session discussions, the Framatome representatives presented on the industry need for a buried piping rehabilitation, because of the 1) aging nuclear fleet, 2) plant life extension, and that 3) there are limited mitigative piping solution options available to address degraded critical buried piping. The NRC staff asked a question regarding qualification, which was addressed during the closed session. There were no members of the public at the meeting.
During the closed session, the Framatome representatives presented on their spray-in-place (SIP) liner system, including applications, case studies, robotic application technology, SIP liner pipe applicability, structural liner qualification program, and preliminary relief request outline.
The NRC staff asked several questions about the proprietary information regarding the SIP system during the closed session. Responses to the NRC staff questions can be found in enclosure 2.
