AspartoftheNRCauditofPSARChapter6,NRCstaffaskedaquestionregardingqualification testingoftheDHRS.
ThePSARincludescommitmentstotestsafetyrelatedstructures,systems,andcomponentsto ensurethesuccessfulperformanceofsafetyfunctions.AsdescribedinPSARSection6.3.3,theDHRS willmeetPDC4,whichrequiresthattheDHRScanperformitssafetyfunctionunderthe environmentalconditionsassociatedwithnormalplantoperationaswellasduringpostulated events.AsdescribedinPSARChapter12,AppendixB,Section2.3.3,theadequacyofthedesignwill beverifiedusingmethodsincludingtheperformanceofqualificationtests.Qualificationtestingfor thesafetyrelatedportionoftheDHRSwillbedefinedinatestplanthatincludesappropriate acceptancecriteriaanddemonstratesthesystemreliabilityandadequacyofperformanceunder conditionsthatsimulatethemostadversedesignbasisconditions.

Theresultsfromseparateandintegraleffectsteststhatsupportvalidationofthepostulatedevent boundaryconditionwillbeavailableduringtheoperatinglicenseapplicationphase,andstartup qualificationtestingresultswillbeavailableduringtheoperationphase.
Inaddition,thePSARincludescommitmentstoensuretheoperabilityoftheDHRSthrough inspectionandtesting,whichensuresdegradationmechanismswillnotpreventtheDHRSfrom performingitssafetyfunction.PSARSection14.1identifiesdecayheatremovalsystemoperability asanexpectedlimitingconditionofoperationthatwillbeincludedwiththetechnicalspecifications intheapplicationforanOperatingLicense.AsdescribedinPSARSection6.3.3,theDHRSwillmeet PDC36byincludingthecapabilityforonlinemonitoringandinspection.Whenthereactoris operatingabovethresholdpower,theDHRSisinanalwaysonoperatingconditionwhichprovides
