Gayheart Regulatory Affairs Director August 19, 2022 Docket Nos.: 50-321 50-366 NL-22-0650 ATTN: Document Control Desk U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555-0001 Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant - Units 1 and 2 Response to Request for Confirmation of Information Regarding License Amendment Request to Revise the NFPA 805 Fire Protection Program Ladies and Gentlemen:

On March 31, 2022 [ADAMS Accession Numbers ML22090A278 (non-public version) and ML22090A279 (public version)], pursuant to the provisions of Section 50.90 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) requested amendments to Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2 (HNP) renewed facility operating licenses DPR-57 and NPF-5, respectively. The proposed amendment requested U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approval to modify Attachment S2, Table S-2 referenced in the Transition License Conditions of RFOL Nos. DPR-57 and NPF-5 to reference an updated Table S-2 that reflect additional required plant modifications that were identified during the implementation of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 805 at HNP.

As part of their review of the license amendment request (LAR), NRC Staff transmitted a request for confirmation information (RCI) on July 25, 2022 [ML22207B853].

The NRC Staffs RCI states:

The proposed revision to item 14 in Attachment 2, Table S-2, discusses that the dampers will be fire tested, that a performance-based analysis will be performed to assess the adequacy of the fire barriers and also to determine if any additional fire damper modifications are required.

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission NL-22-0650 Page 2 Confirm that if the analysis determines that additional fire damper modifications are required, that those modifications will be completed in accordance with the Unit 1 License Condition 2.(C)(3) and Unit 2 License Condition 2.(C)(3)(a), Fire Protection.

In response to the NRC Staffs RCI above, SNC confirms that if the analysis determines that additional fire damper modifications are required, SNC will complete those modifications in accordance with the Unit 1 License Condition 2.(C)(3) and Unit 2 License Condition 2.(C)(3)(a),

Fire Protection.

SNC requests the same approval and implementation schedule as requested in its original application [ML22090A278]. The conclusions of the No Significant Hazards Consideration Determination and Environmental Consideration contained in the original application have been reviewed and are unaffected by this supplement.

In accordance with 10 CFR 50.91, SNC is notifying the State of Georgia of this RCI response by transmitting a copy of this letter to the designated State Official.

This letter contains no new regulatory commitments.
