STAFF REQUIREMENTS - BRIEFING ON 10 CFR PART 53 LICENSING AND REGULATION OF ADVANCED NUCLEAR REACTORS On July 21, 2022, the Commission was briefed by the NRC staff and an external panel on the development of 10 CFR Part 53. The external panel included Doug True, Senior Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer of Generation and Suppliers Division, Nuclear Energy Institute; Dennis Henneke, Consulting Engineer, Advanced Plants Risk and Reliability, GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy; Peter Hastings, Vice President, Regulatory Affairs & Quality, Kairos Power; Mike Shaqqo, Senior Vice President, Advanced Reactor Programs, Westinghouse Electric Company; Greg Cullen, Vice President for Energy Services and Development, Energy Northwest; Dr. Ed Lyman, Director of Nuclear Power Safety, Union of Concerned Scientists; and Jeffrey Semancik, Director, Radiation Division, Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The meeting, which was held in the Commissioners Conference Room, One White Flint North, Rockville, Maryland at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time, was open to members of the public attending in person and via webcast.

There were no requirements identified for staff action.
