Dear DFM Director,

In accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding between our agencies, I request that you review the attached Canadian Certificate of Approval No. CDN/2094/B(U)-96, Rev 4, for the F-522 package and make a recommendation concerning our revalidation of the package for import and export use.

On November 6, 2019 I requested that your office review the Certificate of Approval No.

CDN/2094/B(U)-96, Rev 2 for this package. Your review (Docket No. 71-3091, TAC No. L-2019-LLA-0247) concluded with a February 6, 2020 letter to me which recommended revalidation of the certificate. Revision 4 of the Canadian certificate adds a new configuration (F-522 overpack/F-528 shielding vessel) for the shipment of neutron irradiated Mo-99 target material encapsulated within zircaloy cladding.

To assist you in your review, a copy of the package design safety report for the F-522 package, along with other supporting documents will be provided to your staff electronically.

If you have any questions or need any additional safety information, please feel free to contact Michael Conroy of my staff at (202) 366-3597 or via email at Michael.Conroy@dot.gov.

Sincerely, Richard W. Boyle, Radioactive Materials Division of Sciences and Engineering Office of Hazardous Materials Safety Enclosures Richard Boyle Digitally signed by Richard Boyle Date: 2022.05.16 11:10:46
