NRCs Mission The NRC licenses and regulates the Nation's civilian use of radioactive materials to protect public health and safety, promote the common defense and security, and protect the environment.

  • Current Capacity - 4.6 Million SWU
  • Current Employees - 230
  • Contracted Staff - 100 The only producer of enriched uranium in North America which provides energy security for the power industry

19 19 Safety is our number one priority Includes industrial, nuclear, radiological, and security safety Carefully and strategically maintained a safe work environment during Covid-19 Safeguards is a key component of safety A comprehensive and rigorous program is maintained for Material Control and Accounting Cooperation with the government is important to support non-proliferation Special Nuclear Material and classified information are carefully protected

20 20 Radiological controls and safety are critical A comprehensive and rigorous program is in place for Radiation Protection, Environmental Protection, Waste Management and Transportation Programs are inspected by and must comply with both NRC and State of New Mexico regulations Emergency preparedness is a proactive part of our safety program An extensive program for Emergency Preparedness is in place including an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) along with an Alternate Emergency Operations Center and Joint Information Center (JIC)

Routine drills and emergency exercises are performed with the mutual aid organizations in Lea and Andrews Counties

21 21 Corrective Action Program (CAP) reporting is a fundamental part of our safety culture UUSAs program is accredited by the NRC and encourages prompt identification, screening, investigation, trending, and resolution of events All internal and external adverse conditions are captured related to quality, safety, and security Performance improvement is driven through evaluation to reduce reoccurrence of issues Causal Analyses are performed to better understand issues Identification and resolution of problems has strengthened and improved performance in various applications

22 22 The OZ program implemented at UUSA Over 300 site personnel are trained annually including contractors Courses are offered in Spanish to encourage inclusion New employees are trained and immersed into our culture of accountability Active Inclusion & Diversity and People Development programs Over 25% of employees are female In 2021, 47% of new hires were from the local area Veterans comprise 28% of our workforce Last year, one in every seven employees was promoted
