Dear Mr. Schoedel:
By letter dated December 9, 2021 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML21344A063), Westinghouse Electric Company (Westinghouse), submitted for U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff review four white papers: EVR-LIC-G0-001, Revision 0, Facility Level Design Description; EVR-LIC-GL-003, Revision 0, Principal Design Criteria; EVR-SAR-GL-001, Revision 0, Safety and Accident Analysis Methodologies; and EVR-SAR-GL-002, Revision 0, Licensing Basis Event Identification, SSC Classification and Defense-in-Depth Adequacy. These four white papers describe proposed aspects of the eVinci micro-reactor for which Westinghouse desires to have pre-application discussions. The NRC staff was asked to perform a review of these papers and provide written feedback on each.
The NRC staff completed its review of the four white papers and is generally aligned with their contents, finding no major deficiencies for this stage of the pre-application process. The enclosures of this letter provide the staffs detailed observations for Westinghouse to consider.
The Enclosures 1, 2, 3, and 4 to this letter contain Proprietary information. When separated from Enclosures 1, 2, 3, and 4, this document and Enclosure 5 are DECONTROLLED.
