General From the liquid waste operations perspective, there will be a new contractor, Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), that will be taking over from Savannah River Remediation starting February 26, 2022. Most operational employees will remain with about 20-25 personnel changes in the management ranks.
From the Salt Waste Processing Facility perspective, SRMC will be taking over from Parsons as the new contractor.
In terms of closure activities, the DOE is entering into negotiations with the South Carolina Department of H ealth and E nvironmental Control and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on tank closure milestones/dates.
H-Tank Farm Performance Assessment Updates A large number of input documents for H -Tank Farm Performance Assessment (PA) have been developed and can be provided to the NRC for review and follow-up discussion.
Compliance case initial modeling is being completed. Alternative conceptual models developed as part of the features, events, and processes development process will be considered in the SA to be completed in the summer 2022.
The DOE does not expect to see the H-Tank Farm PA this year. Best path forward is to expect the PA in the early summer 2023. The plan is to start work on F -Tank farm right after the H-Tank Farm.
Action Item: Cynthia Barr requested meetings with the DOE on PA topics such as the updated geochemical modeling.
Current Activities With respect to operational closures at the Tank Farm Facilities, Diversion Boxes (DB) 5 and 6 are in the process of being grouted. The internal grouting on DB 5 is completed and DB 6 was expected to be completed on January 12, 2022.
The DOE is currently working on the design for entombing DB 5 and 6, which is e xpected to be completed in the summer 2022.
Other tank farm operational closures are couple of years away. Tank 15 will be the next tank to be operationally closed.
NRC Activities NRC discussed recent technical review reports that were completed as well as Center for Nuclear Waste Regulatory Analyses (CNWRA) technical reports.
ACTION ITEM: NRC requested follow-up meetings to discuss the Tank 12 grouting Technical Review Report (TRR), and the Type I and II Tank TRR SA.
