AUDIT OF THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSIONS DRUG-FREE WORKPLACE PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION (OIG-20-A-13)
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide a status of the actions taken by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Office of Administration (ADM) in response to the recommendations contained in the subject audit report.
Recommendation 1: Revise the NRC Drug-Free Workplace Plan to reflect the most up-to-date U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) requirements.
Agency Response: The NRC Drug-Free Workplace Plan (DFWP) has been revised to include the most up-to-date HHS requirements and all internal agency approvals have been completed. In May 2021, the DFWP was sent to HHS and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration for review and approval. The staff has responded to questions and provided additional documentation to facilitate their review; however, HHS has not provided their approval.
Status: Ongoing.
Target Completion Date: April 29, 2022 CONTACT: Christoph Heilig, ADM/DFS 301-415-7731 Recommendation 2: Revise the NRC Drug Testing Manual to reflect the most up-to-date HHS requirements.
Agency Response Revisions to the NRC Drug Testing Manual will be completed and internal agency approvals obtained following receipt of HHS approval of the NRC Drug-Free Workplace Plan.
