Dear Dr. Peters:
This refers to amendment request application dated September 3, 2021. We have reviewed your application and will need the following information.
- 1. Niowave states that it will respond to emergency events involved licensed material (see Appendix 10.2) and will permit its employees to use respiratory protection to assess the extent of the events and to decontaminate the facilities. Based on the NRC regulations, licensees who assigns or permits the use of respiratory protection equipment to limit the intake of radioactive material will follow the requirements in 10 CFR 20, Subpart H, Respiratory Protection and Controls to Restrict Internal Exposure in Restricted Areas. Please confirm that Niowave Inc. is aware of the requirements and will follow the requirements in 10 CFR part 20, Subpart H.
- 2. Section 9.2.2.1 states that Niowave will install and test a radon monitoring alarm system at its facility authorized under NRC License No. 21-35144-04 similar to the system at its headquarters authorized under NRC License No. 21-35144-02. Please note that the NRC Material license is an independent license. The license is for the material, uses, locations, facilities and equipment listed on the license. Please describe the radon monitoring alarm system which will be installed and used and how Niowave will ensure the system will perform its function as intended.
- 3. Section Ra-226 Containment & Ventilation System in Appendix 9.2 states that Niowave will utilize a negative pressure glovebox similar to the negative pressure glovebox at its headquarters to work with Ra-226. Please describe the negative pressure glovebox system.
