1. THE CONTROL ROD DRIVE (CRb SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE THE REACTOR WITH POSITIVE REACTIVITY C NTROL WHILE MAINTAINING A CONSTANT QUANTITY OF CONDENSATE TO THE REACTOR VESSEL IN THE FORM OF DRIVE SEAL LEAKAGE, DRIVE COOLING, AND DIRECT FLOW TO THE REACTOR. THE PUMP SUCTION IS FROM THE CONDENSATE STORAGE SYSTEM AND IS RAISED TO A PRESSURE ABOVE THE REACTOR OPERATING PRESSURE BY THE DRIVE WATER PUMPS. THE PRESSURE IS THEN REDUCED TO THE THREE PRESSURES NEEDED FOR DRIVING, CHARGING, AND COOLING.
2. UNITS 1 AND 2 SHARE THE SPARE DRIVE WATER PUMP l1B~ WHILE UNIT 3 HAS ITS OWN SPARE. EACH PUMP IS CAPABLE OF SUPP YI G 100 GPM AT 1500 PSIG.
3. THE CRD HYDRAULIC SYSTEM PROVIDES CRD OPERATING FLUID, CRD COOLANT, ACCUMULATOR CHARGING AND EXHAUST WATER TO THE REACTOR.
4. THREE STAGES OF WATER PRESSURE ARE DERIVED BY THREE SEPARATE REGULATING SYSTEMS. THE SCRAM ACCUMULATOR CHARGING WATER IS AUTOMATICALLY REGULATED TO 1400 PSIG. THE FLOW CONTROL SYSTEM USING FCV-85-11A ORB ANO FE-85-11 MAINTAINS 100 GPM TO THE SYSTEM.

CRD DRIVE WATER IS MAINTAINED AT REACTOR PRESS. (PR) + 250 PSIG BY CONTROLLING PCV-85-23 AND THE AUTOMATIC CLOSING OF FCV-85-20A OR 21A DURING ROD MOVEMENT. THE COOLING WATER HEADER PRESSURE IS REGULATED TO PR+ 20 PSIG BY POSITIONING PCV-85-27. ONE HUNDRED GALLONS PER MINUTE !100 GPM) FLOWS INTO THE REACTOR WHETHER OR NOT THE CONTROL ROD ARE MOVING OR AT REST.

5. EACH CRD IS EQUIPPED WITH A SEPARATE SCRAM ACCUMULATOR WHICH IS CHARGED WITH NITROGEN. THE NITROGEN CHARGING HEADERS ARE MAINTAINED AT 1400 PSIG. ACCUMULATOR CHARGE PRESSURES ARE MONITORED BY LOCAL PRESSURE GAUGES PI-85-34 AND PS-85-34 WHICH ALARM LOW PRESSURE. ACCUMULATOR DIAPHRAGM INTEGRITY IS ALARMED WITH THE USE OF LS-85-34.
6. CRD POSITIONING IS ACCOMPLISHED BY ELECTRICAL CONTROL OF THE INSERT VALVES FCV-85-40A AND DOR THE WITHDRAW VALVES FCV-85-408 AND C.
7. EACH CONTROL ROD, AS IT TRAVELS UP ~INSERT6 OR DOWN iWITHDRAW)

PASSES A NUMBER OF SWITCHES. THE TO TWO P SITION SW TCHES ZS-85-41 A AND B ARE CALLEO "OVER TRAVEL" AND THE BOTTOM TWO POSITION SWITCHES ARE "WITHDRAW BACKSEAT" ZS-85-42 AND "WITHDRAW DISCONNECT" ZS-85-43. THERE ARE 48 SWITCHES BETWEEN THESE LIMITS ZS-85-44 (-1 THRU -48). THEY ARE DIVIDED INTO TWO SETS. ODD NUMBERED SWITCHES (EXAMPLE FOR CRD NUMBER 1: ZS-85-44-1 5 ETC.) ARE THE ROD RIFTING SWITCHES AND THE EVEN NUMBERED SWITCHES ARE THE CRD LOCKED POSITION SWITCHES. THE ABOVE SWITCHES ARE ACTUATED BY A MAGNET IN THE POSITION PROBE. THE ROD POSITION IS DISPLAYED IN THE MAIN CONTROL ROOM ON PANEL 9-5 REACTOR PANEL.

8. INSTRUMENTATION ASSOCIATED WITH BACKUP CONTROLS IS LOCATED AS SHOWN ON THE DIAGRAM. IF A LOCATION IS NOT SHOWN THE DEVICES WILL BE LOCATED ON THE APPROPRIATE 4160V AC BOARD, 480V AC BOARD, OR 250V DC BOARD. (REF GE DESIGN SPEC. 22A1470)
9. THIS CONTROL LOOP HEADER IS PIPED ONLY TO CRD MODULES 26-55, 30-43, 30-07 AND 30-23, PI-85-71A AND 8 ARE ASSOCIATED ONLY WITH CRD MODULES 30-43 AND 30-23 RESPECTIVELY.

12. 2-FCV-85-8 MAY BE OPENED OR CLOSED TO SUPPORT PLANT OPERATIONS EXCEPT WHEN CRD PUMP 18 IS NEEDED TO SUPPLY WATER TO THE UNIT 1 CRD HYDRAULIC CONTROL SYSTEM WHERE 1-FCV-85-8 VALVE IS OPENED. THIS CONDITION REQUIRES THAT 2-FCV-85-8 BE CLOSED.

THE PU PRE MP SUCTION IS FROM THE CONDENSATE STORAGE SYSTEM AND IS RAISED TO A SSURE ABOVE THE REACTOR OPERATING PRESSURE BY THE DRIVE WATER PUMPS. PRESSURE IS THEN REDUCED TO THE THREE PRESSURES NEEDED FOR DRIVING, THE CH NO 1.

ARCING AND COOLING. TES: HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) DEVICES AND CONTROL ROD DRIVE UNIT (CROU) DEVICES ARE SHOWN FOR A SINGLE UNIT AND ARE TYPICAL OF 185 SUCH UNITS. THE DRIVES ARE NUMBERED IN ACCORDANCE WITH TABLE 3 ON 3-730E321-4. UNIDS OF ALL CCMPONENTS AFFILIATED WITH A PARTICULAR DRIVE WILL HAVE A SUFFIX THE SAME AS THE DRIVE COORDINATE. FOR EXAMPLE, THE UNI FOR FLOW CONTROL VALVE 398 ASSOCIATED WITH DRIVE 2-43 WOULD BE 3-FCV-85-398/243, AND FOR CYLINDER 718 WOULD BE 3-CYL-85-718/243. A 3, UNITS 1 AND 2 SHARE THE SPARE DRIVE WATER PUMP (18\\ WHILE UNIT 3 HAS IT'S OWN SPARE. EACH PUMP IS CAPABLE OF SUP~LY NG 100 GPM AT 1500 PSIG. THE CRD HYDRAULIC SYSTEM PROVIDES CRD OPERATING FLUID, CR COOLANT, 8 ACCUMULATOR CHARGING AND EXHAUST WATER TO THE REACTOR.

THREE STAGES OF WATER PRESSURE ARE DERIVED BY TWO SEPARATE REGULATING SYSTEMS. THE SCRAM ACCUMULATOR CHARGING WATER IS AUTOMATICALLY REGULATED TO 1400 PSIG. THE FLOW CONTROL SYSTEM USING FCV-85-11A ORB AND FE-85-11 MAINTAINS APPROXIMATELY 65 GPM TO THE SYSTEM CRD DRIVE WATER IS MAINTAINED AT REACTOR PRESSURE. CPrl + 250 TO 270 PSIG BY CONTROLLING PCV-85-23 AND THE AUTOMATIC CLOSING OF rcV-85-20A OR 21A DURING ROD MOVEMENT. THE COOLING WATER HEADER PRESSURE IS APPROXIMATELY PR+ 20 PSIG. SIXTY-FIVE GALLONS PER MINUTE (65 GPM) FLOWS INTO THE REACTOR WHETHER OR NOT THE CONTROL RODS ARE MOVING OR AT REST. EACH CRD IS EQUIPPED WITH A SEPARATE SCRAM ACCUMULATOR WHICH IS CHARGED WITH NITROGEN. ACCUMULATOR CHARGE PRESSURES ARE MONITORED BY LOCAL PRESSURE GAUGES PI-85-34/219 THRU 5843 AND PS-85-34/219 THRU 5843 WHICH ALARM ON LOW PRESSURE. ACCUMULATOR PISTON INTEGRITY IS ALARMED WITH THE USE OF LS-85-34/218 THRU 5843. CRD POSITIONING IS ACCOMPLISHED BY ELECTRICAL CONTROL OF THE INSERT VALVES FCV-85-40A/219 THRU 5843 AND FCV-85-40D/219 THRU 5843 OR THE WITHDRAWAL
