Dear Dr. Slaughter:

By letter dated March 21, 2019 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML19084A051), as supplemented, Aerotest Operations, Inc. (Aerotest, the licensee) submitted a license amendment request (LAR) to modify Facility Operating License No. R-98 for the Aerotest Radiography and Research Reactor (ARRR) to a possession-only license in support of the licensees decision to permanently cease operation of the ARRR.

By letter dated July 30, 2019 (ADAMS Accession No. ML19193A077), the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff indicated that it planned to complete its review by July 8, 2021, and that this date could change due to several factors, including requests for additional information (RAIs) and unsolicited supplements to the LAR.

Based on the need for additional NRC staff review, including the review of your letter dated June 22, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21181A123), the NRC staff is providing a revised completion date of December 8, 2021. This date could change due to several factors including a need for further RAIs, unanticipated changes to the scope of the review, unsolicited supplements to the LAR, and other factors. If the forecasted date changes, the NRC staff will notify you in writing of the new date and an explanation of the reason for the change.

To help reduce the possible need for further follow-up, and completion schedule changes, the NRC staff strongly encourages Aerotest to contact us to discuss any proposed changes or supporting information prior to submittal. The NRC staff also supports the establishment of a regular weekly (or other frequency) telephone conference call to enhance information exchange.
