SUMMARY

OF JUNE 24, 2021, CLOSED MEETING WITH FRAMATOME AND THE U. S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION TO DISCUSS FRAMATOME TOPICAL REPORT BAW-10227P, REVISION 2, EVALUATION OF ADVANCED CLADDING AND STRUCTURAL MATERIAL (M5) IN PWR FUEL, REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 8, 9, 10 On June 24, 2021, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a closed teleconference meeting via Microsoft Teams with representatives from Framatome Inc.

(Framatome). The purpose of the meeting was to discuss Framatome Topical Report (TR)

BAW-10227P, Revision 2, "Evaluation of Advanced Cladding and Structural Material (M5) in PWR Fuel," Requests for Additional Information (RAIs) 8, 9, and 10 pertaining to cladding rupture strain during loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA). The meeting was noticed on June 14, 2021, and is available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML21165A323. This meeting is a follow-up discussion to an audit (ADAMS Accession No. ML21172A149) held on June 3, 2021, regarding RAIs 8, 9, and 10.

During the meeting, the Framatome representatives and the NRC staff discussed Framatomes information presented at the June 3, 2021, audit including, swelling and rupture models, NUREG-0630, "Cladding, Swelling and Rupture Models for LOCA Analysis," and M5Framatome rupture strain curves. The NRC staff and Framatome representatives did not come to a resolution of the issues pertaining to RAIs 8, 9, and 10, but a follow-up closed meeting will be planned.
