U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Public Meeting Summary June 16, 2021
Title:
Public Meeting to discuss the Categorical Exclusions from Environmental Review Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking Date: June 16, 2021 Location: Webinar Category: Information Meeting with a Q&A Session Purpose of the Meeting: The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRC) advance notice of the proposed rulemaking (ANPR) on Categorical Exclusions from Environmental Review and request for stakeholder input.
General Details: The meeting was attended by 25 NRC staff and 38 members of the public.
Summary of NRC Presentation: The NRC staff presented background on the Categorical Exclusions Rulemaking and its impact to NRC regulations. The staff also provided an overview of the potential rulemaking changes, answered clarifying questions, and discussed how to submit public comments.
Summary of Public Feedback: Participants included representatives from the Nuclear Energy Institute and Agreement States. Participants expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to meet to discuss the potential rulemaking and to ask questions about the ANPR. Some participants stated that they are in the process of developing comments for submittal.
Action Items/Next Steps: The staff will consider, to the extent possible, public feedback received to inform the development of the proposed rule and associated guidance. During the meeting, a member of the public had a question about Agreement State jurisdiction over special nuclear material. The staff will follow up with an email response.
