Dear Mr. Cannon:
On behalf of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), I am responding to your letter dated May 10, 2021 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)
Accession Number ML21162A053) to Chris Regan, Acting Division Director, Division of Fuel Management in which you notified the NRC of PermaFix Northwest Richland, Inc.s (PermaFix) intent to pursue a Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 70 specific license application within 6 months of the intent letter, to possess and process special nuclear material at your mixed waste facility in Richland, WA.
We appreciate this advance information and will use it to plan our workload and develop an appropriate budget. Please note that NRC resources are provided by the U.S. Congress and the President. Initial planning for our budget request begins more than 2 years in advance. We will attempt to include pre-licensing discussions and license review activities to the extent we are able within appropriated resources.
