[External_Sender] RE: Millstone Unit 3 MUR LAR Question Date:

Tuesday, May 18, 2021 7:57:26 AM

Rich, DENC applied the term pipe support generically for all types of pipe supporting elements at Millstone Unit 3. The term pipe supports includes, snubbers, spring hangers, and rigid supports (e.g., struts, fabricated anchors, box frames, racks, etc.). Thus, snubbers were considered in the MUR assessment for the adequacy of pipe supports for potential load increases and for the impact of larger travel due to higher operating temperatures, and the conclusions in Section IV.1.A.iv and Section IV.1.A.v of the MPS3 LAR are also applicable to snubbers.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

[EXTERNAL] Millstone Unit 3 MUR LAR Question

Shayan, As I mentioned today in our conversation, I would like to get confirmation regarding the NRC technical staffs understanding of one area of the MPS3 MUR LAR.Section IV.1.A.iv and Section IV.1.A.v of the MPS3 LAR discusses the evaluation of the NSSS piping systems and the BOP piping systems, respectively. While the lateral snubbers for the primary equipment supports were specifically listed in Section IV.1.A.iv, the pipe supports and snubbers for the NSSS or BOP piping systems were not mentioned. Our understanding is that the snubbers are included as part of the pipe supports in the analysis of the NSSS and BOP piping, but would like to confirm - specifically, that the analysis of the NSSS and BOP piping systems which found them acceptable for the MUR power uprate operating conditions includes the analysis and review of the pipe supports and snubbers. Can you verify?
