Subject:
Request for Additional Information (Acc.# ML19128A342) Response Time Extension To Whom It May Concern, On June 5, 2019, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) sent a Request for Additional Information (RAI) to the Kansas State University nuclear reactor facility (license R-88, docket 50-188) regarding a license amendment request (LAR) to add up to four 12%-loaded fuel elements to the core (Acc.#
ML1219A063). At this point, the neutronics model is being updated and benchmarked for implementation in the thermal-hydraulic study. Additional time is needed to complete burn-up analysis for the current fuel. To complete the analysis, the facility is requesting to extend the RAI response time an additional three months to 9 June 2021. During the extension, the facility will also explore options for external assistance with the analysis.
Previously discussed operations restrictions are in place. Advanced notification to the NRC will be provided if changes to the administrative restrictions are expected prior to completion of the LAR review.
I swear under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct.
