SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF FEBRUARY 24, 2021, PARTIALLY CLOSED MEETING BETWEEN FRAMATOME INC. AND THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION TO DISCUSS FUEL PARTICLE TRANSPORT IN FUEL FRAGMENTATION RELOCATION AND DISPERSAL EVALUATION FOR HIGHER BURNUP FUELS On February 24, 2021, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a partially closed teleconference meeting via Microsoft Team (Open Session) and WebEx (Closed Session) with representatives from Framatome Inc. (Framatome). The purpose of the meeting was for Framatome to discuss plans to assess fuel particle transport and settling in the Fuel Fragmentation, Relocation and Dispersal (FFRD) evaluation for higher burnup fuels. The meeting was noticed on February 11, 2021, and is available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML21043A255.

During the open session, Framatome representatives provided an introduction of the fuel particle transport method in the FFRD evaluation. There were no questions from members of the public during the open session. During the closed session, Framatome representatives and NRC staff discussed Framatomes presentation on an introduction of the FFRD evaluation, code used to simulate fuel particle transport, particle study, application and qualification of the transport code, planned models, summary, and next steps. Framatome plans to have additional interactions with NRC to discuss FFRD pertaining to a planned topical report on increased burnup.

A list of the attendees is enclosed. The Framatome presentation materials, including this meeting summary can be found at ADAMS Package Accession No. ML21050A328.
