Dear Ms. Wingfield:
Thank you for your interest in conducting a meeting to discuss Connecticuts intent to enter into an Agreement with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) under Section 274b. of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended. If approved, by the Commission, Connecticut would assume regulatory authority over byproduct, source and small quantities of special nuclear material to protect the public health and safety and the environment with respect to agreement material as defined in Section 11e.(1),(3) and (4) of the Atomic Energy Act and the facilities that generate this material. To date, 39 States have signed Agreements with the NRC, by which those States have assumed regulatory responsibility from the NRC.
This letter is to confirm that a virtual meeting to discuss Connecticuts intent to become an Agreement State is scheduled for 9:00 am on January 28, 2021. Enclosed for your review is a draft agenda for the meeting, of which we welcome your comments.
Mr. Duncan White, of my staff, has been assigned as the NRC Project Manager for assisting Connecticut in the process of becoming an Agreement State.
