Dear Mr. Wells:

By letter dated October 14, 2020 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML20288A432), Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) submitted an exemption request for the Watts Bar Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2. The request seeks a temporary exemption from the requirements of Appendix B to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 73,Section VI, paragraph C.3(l)(1) regarding the conduct of an annual force-on-force exercise.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff is reviewing your submittal and has identified areas where additional information is needed to complete its review.

A draft request for additional information (RAI) was previously transmitted to you by email dated October 30,2020. A clarification call was held on November 2nd to clarify the NRC staffs request. Based on the discussion during the call, no changes to the RAI were identified.

The NRC requests a response to the attached RAI on or before November 5, 2020. The NRC staff considers that timely responses to RAIs help ensure sufficient time is available for staff review and contribute toward the NRCs goal of efficient and effective use of staff resources. If circumstances result in the need to revise the requested response date, please contact me at (301) 415-1627 or via email at Kimberly.Green@nrc.gov.
