Letter(380841), A. Snyder to B. C. Bower,"U.S. Department of Energy West Valley Demonstration Project Main Plant Process Building Decommissioning & Demolition Plan, WVDP-586,Revision 1, Dated September 27,2017(Docket No.05000201 (POOM-032))," dated May 30, 2019

Dear Ms. Snyder:

The DOE-WVDP would like to thank the NRC for their May 30,2019, correspondence (reference)indicating that the NRC has no further comments on the WVDP MPPB Decommissioning & Demolition Plan (Plan). Upon finalization ofthe Plan, it will be provided to the NRC.

Once the MPPB characterization and analyses are complete, WVDP personnel will meet with NRC staff to review the supporting information and summarize how the planned MPPB demolition will meet the prescribed limits for open-air demolition. During these meetings, lessons leamed from the open-air demolition ofthe Vitrification Facility(VF)will also be reviewed, including how they are being factored into work planning for MPPB demolition.

DOE-WVDP will coordinate with the NRC to conduct these meetings before MPPB demolition begins, which is currently estimated to occur during the second half of calendar year 2020.

As also requested, DOE-WVDP will provide NRC with the MPPB radionuclide inventory and analyses verifying the MPPB demolition will not exceed the National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants limits (Title 40 ofthe Code ofFederal Register Part 61). In response to your e-mail on June 3,2019,DOE-WVDP will provide NRC with the VF demolition

Ms. Amy Snyder June 19,2019 AERMOD calculations and the VF alternate method validation study report, after they have been finalized.

Please contact Moira Maloney of my staff at(716)942-4255 if you have any question, need additional information, or if you would like to schedule a conference call to discuss the attached.
