Subj ect:
EVACUATION OF AUXILIARY BUILDING DUE TO SMALL SPILL OF REACTOR COOLANT WATER The auxiliary building was evacuated as a precautionary measure for approximately one hour beginning at approximately 7:00 p.m.
on May 10, 1976, due to leakage of reactor coolant water from a reactor coolant filter drain valve.
The cause of the leakage hac not been determined. ; Gross beta-g =ma activity levels in the building increased to approximately 7x10-8 microcuries per milliliter. No release limits appear to have been exceeded, and no personnel over-exposures are expected to have resulted. Reactor operation had been resumed May 10, 1976, following a maintenance outage which began April 12, 1976. Reactor operation was not affected by the occurrence.
A Region III (Chicago) radiation protection specialist who is conducting a routine inspection at the site is investigating the occurrence.
The occurrence received news media attention as a result of the r-evacuation of construction workers from the auxiliary building.
News releases are planned by both the licensee and the NRC.
Region III received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the Plant Health Physicist at 9:00 a.m. May 11, 1976.
