was manually scrammed and the site emergency plan was placed into effect, ,

because of the surprising increase of the gaseous release. It should be noted that releases from the plant have been very low. Five workers were evacuated from the Turbine Building. There were no personnel injuries or overexposure.

There were no radioactive releases above technical specification limits to the environment. The plant remained shutdown for an outage scheduled O to start January 18. /

/

l Media interest is expected because of the extended scheduled outage. The g State of New York was informed January 16. A press release was made by the A licensee on January 16. 0 Region I was informed of this occurrence by telephone from the Plant  ;

Superintendent at 1620 January 16.

This report includes information obtained over the weekend and is accurate

as of 0800 January 19.
