FAILURE OF TACK WELDS ON JET PUMP RETAINER BOLT KEEPERS The licensee reported by telephone to the Region I office, Philadelphia, Pa., that planned inservice inspections of the tack welds on Jet Pump Retainer bolt keepers disclosed that 12 keeper tack welds on eight jet pumps were broken.
The cause appears to be vibration. No evidence of bolts loosening has been visually detected. The licensee stated that a similar inspection previously performed in 1974 had identified no problems with the subject tack we?.ds.
The licensee stated that the scheduled refueling outage now in progress would be extended 10 days in order to make the needed repairs.
Media interest is expected because of prior media attention at Pilgrim and the Pilgrim 2 hearing. The State of Massachusetts has been informed.
A press release is not planned.
NRC, Region I, Philadelphia, Pa. received notification of this occurr-ence by telephone from the licensee at 2:40 PM on 3/19/76.
