INDICATIONS IN FEEDWATER N0ZZLE While shutdown for refueling, a scheduled examination of the feedwater

~

spargers and interior cladding of the reactor feedwater nozzles revealed 21 linear indications ranging in length from 1/16" to 1/4".

The indica-tions were found on the upper half of one of the four feedwater nozzles.

No visual linear indications were found on the spargers, the apparent cause of the problem. The licensee has ordered a new modified sparger. The licen-see intends to unload the fuel and, lower water level to facilitate the com-plete inspection of the 4 nozzles and related repair activities with a minimum radiation exposure to workers. This problem has occurred at several other BWR facilities.

Region I estimates this problem will increase the outage at least one week.
