The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically l all that is known by IE staff as of this date. Facility: Turkey Point Unit Nos 3 and 4 Flordia Power and Light Company (DNs 50-250 and 50-251)

Employee Arrested for Possession of Arms, Explortves and Narcotics Two detectives from the Metropolitan Dade County Department of Public Safety arrested an FP&L maintenance employee at Turkey Point at 4:00 a.m. on 3/22/77. The employee was charged with: (1) possession of explosives; (2) possession of narcotics; (3) possession of narcotics [x paraphernalia; and (4) illegal transportation of explosives. The ( charges were based on search of the employee's residence, which was conducted during the evening of 3/21/77 and early morning hours of 3/22/77. The items recovered from the employees residence included: (1) 21 assorted weapons; (2) 40 pounds of dynamite; (3) 1/2 pound of marijuana; (4) 3 ounces of cocaine; and (5) a large accumulation of barbiturates. d / The employee, a male approximately 25 years old, was employed by FP&L on I 1/19/76 and is a maintenance journeyman mechanic. He had access to all areas 'at the site. The man's wife was also arrested and FP&L repre-sentatives believe tbt the man is in the process of being released on bond. FP&L representatives have withdrawn his security badge, to assure that he is not permitted entry into the plant. FP&L security representatives are attempting to interview the individual so his motives may be deter-mined. Also, the plant manager will inform the individual that his employment with FP&L is suspended until all details of the case can be investigated. FP&L representatives stated his locker and toc 1 box at the site have been inspected with negative results. March 21,-1977 ---__._._.,,,....u,.,m,,. m, -Region II received notification of this occurrence via telephone from the Turkey Point Manager at 1000 hours on 3/22/77. FBI has been noti-fled by Region II. The IAT was notified on 3/22/77. No further IE action is planned unless the local police investigation discloses activity withia NRC's jurisdiction. ~ Although no press release has been made or planned, media interest is possible due to the fact that the arrest involved a Turkey Point employee.
