Collgress of flJe l!ll11teb fetates i!11ashington DC 20515 May 20,1998 The Honorable Shirley Ann Jackson Chairman Nuclear Regulatory Commission 11555 Rockville Pike l
Rockville, MD 20852
Dear Chairman Jackson:
With another Commission meeting on the situation at Mi!! stone Station approaching rapidly, we request that you continue your commitment to openness and dialogue with the communities affected by the plants.
- Specifically, if the Commission authorizes Millstone 3 to restart, we request your agency hold a public meeting in Southeastern Connecticut to explain the final safety assessment issued by the Special Projects Office staff and the independent contractor. In addition, the meeting should describe the actions taken by the company to comply with all of the the conditions for restart, including those in the two confirmatory orders. We applaud the Commission for undertaking unprecedented steps to involve and educate the public over the past two years. We strongly believe it is vitally important for this policy to continue with respect to this crucial decision.
We thank you in advance for considering our request. We look forward to hearing from you soon on this imponant issue.
Sincerely, I
1
