UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION
~
WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 e
June 4, 1998 CHAIRMAN The Honorable Christopher J. Dodd United Statec Senate Washington, D.C. 20510
Dear Senator Dodd:
I am responding to your letter of May 20,1998, in which you requested the NRC to hold a public meeting in Southeaster Connecticut if the Commission decides to authorize the restart of Millstone Unit 3. As you noted in your letter, the NRC has maints;oed an open dialogue with the communities affected by Millstone over the past 2 years. The meeting that you suggest is certainly warranted in light of the import of a restart authorization decision to the local communities. Such a meeting would also be in keeping with the NRC's continuing efforts to communicate with the public in the Millstone area.
If and when a restart authorization decision regarding Millstone Unit 3 is made, I will ensure that the Special Projects Office staff conduct a public meeting in the Millstone area to address the issues noted in your letter. We will inform your office when this meeting is scheduled.
I trust that this is responsive to your request.
Sincerely, I
}&Q' Shirley Ann Jackson
