INCORRECT WELDS ON ATTACHMENTS TO CATEGORY I l
PIPING SYSTEMS I
As a result of the planned engineering design review required by license conditions and now being conducted by the licensee,.certain j
welded attachments were identified which were not performed in accor-EEns :
dance with piping code USAS B31.7.
Specifically, fillet we16s rather
{ bl than required full penetration welds were found on twenty seismic

hangers and trunnions in Category I piping systems.
Approximately 39 i
additional supports are suspect.
The licensee is continuing both the I
evaluation of this problem and the overall engineering design review.
Four IE inspectors have been and are onsite reviewing the preliminary

findings of the overall design review.
/2 01 There has been no media interest thus far but interest is expected.

The Commonwealth of Virginia has been notified.
A news release is not, planned by the licensee.
NRC is considering a news release.
Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this occurrence by tele-phone from an IE inspector at 9:30 a.m. on February 7.
