SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-483/98-08 AND NOTICE OF VIOLATION
Dear Mr. Randolph:
From April 12 through May 23,1998, a routine inspection was conducted at your Callaway Plant
reactor facility. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of that inspection.

During the 6-week period covered oy this inspection, your conduct of activities at the Callaway
Plant reactor facility was generally characterized by safety-conscious operations, sound
engineering practices, and careful radiological controls. However, a violation of NRC
-
requirements occurred in the maintenance area. This violation involved the failure to have
adequate protective tagging for work on residual heat removal Train A charging pump supply
isolation Valve EJHV8804A. As a result, an inadvertent transfer of 600 gallons of refueling
cavity water to the chemical and volume control system occurred.
The NRC has concluded that information regarding the reason for the violation, the corrective
actions taken and planned to correct the violation and prevent recurrence is already adequately
addressed on the docket in this inspection report. Therefore, you are not required to respond to
this letter unless the description therein does not accurately reflect your corrective actions or
your position. In that case, or if you choose to provide additional information, you should follow
the instructions specified in the enclosed Notice.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter, its
enclosures, and your response will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
