West Liberty State College Dave:
I spoke with Dr. Cook, Dean of School of Natural Sciences, today concerning the status of the transfer of the Am-241 source. He said that Dr. Leach, Chairman of the Physics Department, will be preparing a response to us as to why West Liberty did not respond to the 1995 NOV. In addition, he informed me that the source is scheduled to be transferred from West Liberty to UWV on 3/11. I encouraged him to ensure that the transfer take place on 3/11 and asked him to call you next week to let you know of the status. I informed him that it appeared tnat they are in violation of NRC requirements by possessing licensed matenal with an expired NRC license and that if he transfers the source, we will probably issue a violation with no response required (of course subject to management approval).
For Action. When you get back, please follow up with Dr. (if you do not hear from him by the end of next week). Unless Doug or Chuck think otherwise, if the transfer ,
takes pleos on 3/11, please revise the letter docurr.enting your inspection to: (1) change the inspection end date to 3/11; (2) issue an NOV with no response required. In addition, please ask Unda to change the inspection end date in the weekly tracking system to reflect the date of the last discussion we may have with West Liberty. If the transfer does not take place, please talk to Doug or Chuck about it to determine the next step. You may call me at OE if you'd like (301) 415 2740.
