Dear Mr. McNeill:
The purpose of this letter is to confirm the telephone discussion between you and Messrs. W. Butler and W. Brach of the NRC on July 14, 1989 and to request your cooperation and assistance in the review of an allegation received by the NRC involving the Peach Bottom plant. The details of the allegation are provided in the enclosure to this_1etter. This information was initially provided to you by phone so that any safety or operability issues could be promptly addressed.
We request that Philadelphia Electric Company fully review this allegation and take action in accordance with the instructions provided in the enclosure. We also request that the results of your review be provided in a written response to the NRC within 60 d ys of your receipt of this letter. Should your response contain any personal privacy, proprietary or safeguards information, it should be provided in an enclosure which will be witnheld from public disclosure.
The enclosure to this letter "Sould be controlled and distribution limited to personnel with a "need-to-Enow until your investigation of this matter has been completed and reviewed by the NRC. The enclosure to this letter is considered as Exempt from Public Disclosure in accordance with Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 2.790(a).
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter, excluding the enclosure, will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
The response directed by this letter is not subject to the clearance procedure of the Office of Management and Budget as required by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, PL 96-511.
