Glen Allen, Virginia 23060 SUBJECT-NORTH ANNA POWER STATION, UNIT 1 AND UNIT 2 - REQUEST FOR USE OF ASME SECTION XI CODE CASE IN SECOND 10-YEAR INTERVAL INSERVICE INSPECTION PROGRAMS (TAC NOS. MA1438 AND MA1439)
Dear Mr. O'Hanlon:
The NRC staff has evaluated the information provided in your March 25,1998, as supplemented May 12,1998, submittal related to the permission to use Code Case N-535 in North Anna's ASME Section XI inservice Inspection Program. In your letter, you have stated that Code Case N-535 interprets intervalinspection scheduling requirements and allows both interval and period extensions of up to one year to enable an inspection to coincide with a plant outage. Application of this Code case would provide additionalinspection scheduling flexibility in completing intervalinspections. The Code case allows Examinations to be performed to satisfy the requirements of the extended intervalin conjunction with examinations performed to satisfy requirements of the successive interval. Currently, the Unit 1 and Unit 2 intervals will end on April 30,1999 and December 14,2000, respectively.
Based on the evaluation of the request, it is concluded that use of Code Case N-535 provides an acceptable level of quality and safety. Therefore, pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3)(i), the staff authorizes the proposed use of Code Case N-535. The staff's evaluation and conclusions are contained in the Enclosure.
The staff has completed its evaluation of this matter and we are, therefore, closing out TAC Nos. MA1438 and MA1439.
