' Region I Incident Response Center Data Handling Capability

Dear Sir:

'In Reference (b) we were informed of the deta handling capabilities of the NRC's new Region I Incident Response Center (IRC). These new capabilities permit the transmission and receipt of information by either facsimile or personal computet. .The NRC encouraged licensees to utilize either of these new IRC data handling systems during drills and actual events to supplement verbal communications that are provided over the Emergency Notification System and the Health Physics Network.

Yankee Atomic Electric Company wishes to inform you that we do intend on utilizing the IRC's new data handling capabilities to supplement our communications with the NRC.- During drills or actual events at Yankee, we will endeavor to " fax" plant status sheets to the Region at approximately 30-minute intervals.

However, it is important to undertstand that since the new data handling capability is viewed as a supplement to our communications with your agency, occasionally there may be instances when manpower or other constraints could cause temporary interruptions of these fax transmittals.

We plan on implementing this new communication link during the Yankee annual emergency exercise scheduled for November 28, 1989. We will contact your R. Summers prior to that time to finaliz'e the necessary arrangements.

Very truly yours, YANKEE ATOM'IC ELEC RIC COMPANY y A ?4 &
